Editing a Post

To edit a post's content, select the "Edit (Department)" button located at the top left hand corner of your screen.

Choosing a Post Editor

Two post editors have been provided to accommodate new and experienced web content editors. You will be able to switch between both editors through several different methods.

Dashboard

To access your department admin dashboard, go to the top left corner of the screen, hover over Northeastern University Library and select Dashboard.

To access your department's post dashboard, select the menu item with a pushpin icon and your department name or acronym. You should see a list of all your department posts.

Hover over the post you want to edit, and you should see Edit (block editor) and Edit (classic editor) appear below the title.

Editor Options

To switch to the "Classic Editor" when using the "Block Editor," open the "Options" menu located on the top right corner of the screen, scroll down to the "Plugins" section, and select "Switch to Classic Editor."

Using the Block Editor

For users who want to add advanced html elements but have less experience with html and web design, the block editor will give you predefined html blocks to suit your needs.

How to Use Blocks

  • Toggle on block inserter
  • Select a block from the options menu.
  • Select a block
    • When selecting a block, remember that it will add the new block to the section you edited last.
    • Or drag a block. Click and hold the selected block simultaneously and move the block to the main block editor.
  • The main block editor is where you can manage your post content.
  • To assign a "Parent Page," go to the right-hand side of the page under "Page Attributes" and click the search box to pull up a list of pages.
    • *Only pages listed in your department admin dashboard will display as an option.
  • To publish your changes, go to the top right of the page and select the "Update" button.

How to Move or Delete Blocks

  • Toggle on "Document Overview"
    • A menu will pop up where you can modify all blocks in the main editor.
  • Hover over the block you want to edit in the "List View."
    • To open the "Options for Columns" menu, select the three dots to the right of the block item listed.
  • To reorder the blocks, click and hold the selected block simultaneously and drag it within the "List View" menu.

Using the Classic Editor

For users who don't need to insert advanced HTML elements or want a basic text editor, the "Classic Editor" is your best option.

How to Use the Classic Editor

  • You have two views you can select from.
    • Visual: Edit post content using the predefined tools to style text and add media.
    • Text: A standard HTML view for users who have some front-end design experience.
  • To assign a "Parent Page", go to the right-hand side of the page under "Page Attributes" and click the dropdown menu to pull up a list of pages. 
    • *Only pages listed in your department admin dashboard will display as an option.
  • To publish your changes, go to the top right page and select the "Update" button.
